As the Olympic partner of China's national badminton team, Bank of China takes an active part in an earthquake relief charity bazaar held by the team on May 22, 2008. It subscribes RMB 500,000 to the gold medal at the Thomas Cup donated by Lin Dan, the world No. 1 in the men's single, and the money will then be donated to the earthquake-hit area via the Red Cross Society of China by the team.
As the team just won both the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup, it co-held the charity bazaar with the Chinese Badminton Association the next day after their arrival in Beijing.
A person in charge of Bank of China Olympic Affairs Office says, "It is so inspiring that the national badminton won the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup again and it is admirable of them to donate the gold medals for earthquake relief. It is our responsibility to support the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and earthquake relief". As of May 19, the bank has already donated money and supplies worth RMB 80.43 million.
